Going to interview in the rains

Posted: 11 Jun 2010 10:06 AM PDT

Going for an interview in the rains
The rains are around the corner so you better brace yourself for some difficult times. And God help you if you need to go for an interview on a rainy day. You can't call up the interviewer and re-schedule the interview because 1) it is unprofessional and 2) the next day might be just as bad, if not worse. So follow these tips to ensure that you reach the office on time looking as fresh as a daisy;

Set aside buffer time

If you've been in the city for even a year, you would know that the monsoons disrupt the pace and spirit of Mumbai like nothing else. The trains start running slow, most of the cabbies park their vehicles for fear of damaging them in the lethal floods and the only buses on the road are so packed that it would be miracle if you managed to accommodate even one limb of yours. So if you have to make it on time for the interview, you have to leave at least 40 minutes before you would have left on a regular day.

Keep your files in a plastic bag

Do not expose your important documents in the rains. Keep them in a plastic bag and put that in the bag you carry daily. If you hand over a soaking wet CV to your interviewer rest assured you'll never get a call from that company again.

Carry of Towel

If a sweaty visage is a turn off so is a rain battered appearance. Make survey you wipe your face and hair before you step into the office for an interview. And most importantly, wipe your hands. A wet handshake will only dampen you chances of finding a job.

Wear a skirt

If you're a girl, we suggest you wear a skirt just so that your trousers / jeans don't get soiled. Boys, we're sorry you don't have much of the choice but you can certainly wear floaters or loafers with jeans and a formal shirt so that your socks are not dripping wet.

Wear minimal makeup

All you ladies out there stay away from layers of makeup. You'll look straight out of a horror flick if its starts running in the rains. If you wear it, make sure that it is waterproof.

HR related help

Posted: 11 Jun 2010 09:40 AM PDT

HI Seniors

I want to know what are the HR files I need to maintain in my new office. We have just started a month back and we have a staff strength of 19 people out of which 10 are based in Mumbai and the rest are the sales employee who are based in Chennai, Bangalore etc... Also, we are planning to recruit few people but not within our company, but through consultants. These are again the sales guys who will work for us on field out of Mumbai but will be in our consultants payroll. In such a case as a HR person what are the things I should be concerned about- in terms of how many such employees can be recruited. Are there any restrictions on the numbers that I can recruit, from point of view of Shops & Establishment or from any legal/HR side.

From shops and establishment side, I have been told that I have to maintain the muster roll? What is the difference between muster and attendance roll? What is this N Form and M form, is that mandatory to maintain this form? If yes, how does one do that? I mean I need explanation in details.

YOu may reply on

Thankyou
