Leadership strength & weaknesses

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 03:14 PM PDT

Hello everyone! i have been given a task to assess my own leadership strengths and weaknesses, and to make an action plan on how to improve those strength and fix those weaknesses. The following are my strengths: im hardworking, a good team player, self motivated and determined, self disciplined, good integrity and im always organised. The following are my weaknesses:I lack confidence, though im self motivated and determined i have difficulty speaking up in a group situation, i cant stand up and tell people my thoughts and opinions. Lack of confidence makes me easily intimidated and it becomes hard for me to communicate well, especially during presentations. I am also pessimistic, i always think something somehow is gonna go wrong, and because of that i never volunteer to lead when we are given team tasks. I am also sensitive, especially if i fail to do something, it never gets off me so easily.
So how do i go about my action plan, i need help, so i will really love to hear your suggestions and recommendations
Thnx in advance

Why I like Pre-Interview technical Screening?

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 03:03 PM PDT

Recently we needed to recruit five Java developers for a project. Project was having a very tight timeline so needed resources very fast. As a small startup company, we were trying to avoid recruitment consultants to cut down recruitment costs.

We started by posting our requirements on various job boards like monster, naukri and various other classified sites. On Friday, before leaving for the day, we posted our requirement on multiple channels.

On Monday morning, we were too happy to see our inbox overflowing with 1000+ applicants. Initial thought was, Wow, things couldn't be more easier.

That's when nightmare began. We started going by each email and were thinking we should be able to get the right candidates in no time. But even after talking to 100+ candidates and consuming almost three days, we were no where.

Some applicants were not suitably located and were not willing to relocate (even though we had posted location and all the details in the posts), some were not having required experience levels and other were simply... well, not worth wasting time on.

We managed to get around 10 candidates for interview by end of the week, but in the interview we found they lacked understanding of technology and were misfit, we could only recruit two of them. So here we were after a week of hard work only with two resources.

That's when we realized that we needed a system that would reduce the manual effort and increase our chance of interview only right candidates.

Applicant Tracking Systems with built-in Pre-interview technical screening feature are very useful in such situation. For example, eScreener (eScreener - offers pre-interview screening test, free applicant tracking system, resume management system) is one such Applicant tracking system (Recruitment software) that fully automates the process of applicant screening.

For a requirement, HR would design a screening test that would cover all the basic technical and other aspects of screening. When candidate applies for a job online or via email, eScreener captures all the details about the candidate from resume and sends candidate notification via email and SMS providing him details about online screening test.

Usually only Candidates who are serious about the job would devote 15-30 minutes for screening. Others who have just applied without any real intention of joining would normally skip screening. So that would work as first level of filter. Now you have only those candidates who are actively looking for a new job. Once candidate takes screening tests, system captures their score and no matter what their resume says, you have common benchmark for assessing quality of the candidates.

You can even configure eScreener to send out notification to candidates once he clears the screening test with you contact details. So now you don't have to hunt for candidates. Candidates who are serious about job and have cleared screening would contact you!

Technology is revolutionizing recruitment process all over world. Are you using right systems to recruit the talent you company deserves?

ESI Wage Ceiling Raised

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 09:51 AM PDT

Employees’ State Insurance Act of India: Labour Ministry Issues Draft Rules For Enhancement Of Wage Ceiling:

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has recently issued1
<http://maildirect.co.in/reports/link.htm?~cmFqYW4udmFzYUBjb250ZWNoQlBPLmNvbX4xMjY5 MDc5OTM0fm5zaF8xMDZ+MjAxMDAzflQ@~http://www.nishithdesai.com/New_Hotline/Hr/Hr%20Hotline_March2010.htm#a#a>
draft rules for enhancement of wage ceiling (salary limit) from INR
10,000 (approx US$ 225) per month to INR 15,000 (approx. US$ 330) per
month for coverage under the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948
(“ESI Act”). Once the draft rules enter into force, a greater section
of employees would get covered under the ESI Act, a federal labour law. It
is expected that this new wage ceiling will be implemented from April 1,
2010, which is the beginning of the new financial year.

Background

The ESI Act provides insurance coverage to eligible employees in the case
of work related injury, sickness, maternity, disablement and death. The
ESI Act applies to all factories employing at least 10 employees. It has
also been extended to shops, hotels, restaurants, cinemas, transport
undertakings, etc. The ESI Act requires the employer and the eligible
employees to contribute insurance premium to the Employees State Insurance
Fund, which is administered by the Employees’ State Insurance
Corporation (“ESIC”). The contributions are to be made at specified
rates which are revised from time to time. With effect from 1997, the rate
of employer’s contribution is 4.75% of each eligible employees’ wages
and that of the employee is 1.75% of the wages. These contributions are to
be made during two contribution periods of six months each. In addition to
the insurance coverage, to the extent an employee is already covered under
the ESI Act, the employer is exempted from its financial liability under
the Employee’s Compensation Act, 1926 and the Maternity Benefit Act,
1961.

Shanu
